Coaching for Ongoing Pain. Ready to try something different?
Understanding Life with Ongoing Pain Are you struggling with ongoing pain that's been with you for months or years? You're not alone. Millions of people live with ongoing pain that affects their sleep, mobility, relationships, work, and overall quality of life. It can feel like you're stuck in a cycle that's hard to break. But there are evidence-based approaches that can help you develop a different relationship with your pain. At the JoynerPain programme, we understand how ongoing pain affects every aspect of your life. We offer an educational coaching approach based on current pain neuroscience research and Cognitive Behavioural Coaching principles.
Understanding Ongoing Pain
Living with ongoing pain can be frustrating and challenging. Let's explore what we know about how pain works.
Pain: Your Body's Alarm System
Pain is a natural protective signal, alerting us to potential danger. It's part of our body's survival mechanisms. Acute pain serves an important purpose.
Ongoing Pain: When Pain Persists
In ongoing pain (lasting beyond 3 months), the nervous system can become sensitized. Neural pathways that once signalled danger may continue to fire even when there's no ongoing tissue damage. Your brain interprets these signals as threatening, creating real pain experiences.
The Science of Neuroplasticity
Research shows that the brain is adaptable - this is called neuroplasticity. The same adaptability that can contribute to ongoing pain also means you can learn new ways of responding to pain signals.
This is where educational coaching can help. The JoynerPain Programme focuses on teaching you about these processes and coaching you in developing personalized strategies.
A Complementary Coaching Approach
Traditional medical care is essential for diagnosing conditions and treating injuries. The JoynerPain Programme is not a replacement for medical care - it's a complementary educational coaching approach that helps you develop self-management skills alongside your ongoing medical treatment.
